Top 5 or 10 player ever. But anyone disputing Ruth being the GOAT doesn't know **** about baseball.

He is the greatest of his era, but it's hard to compare his era to the 50s through today.

Has nothing to do with eras. Name anyone, in any era, who was Hall of Fame caliber as both a hitter and a pitcher. The only true universal player in history. It defies belief.

            Greatest games:

The June 23, 1917, game between the Red Sox and the Washington Senators. Here's what I would get to see:

            • A game at Fenway Park when the stadium was just five years old.

            • A game Babe Ruth played.

            • A game Babe Ruth pitched.

            • A game Babe Ruth was ejected from when he SLUGGED THE UMPIRE after walking the game's leadoff batter.

            • And finally, a game when reliever Ernie Shore took over, the leadoff batter was caught stealing and Shore retired everyone else in order for a perfect game in relief.

That's the thing, during his era that was possible, it would have never been possible to do that during the 50's through now. You really can't compare that era to recent eras, just so much stuff different.

The situation was no different. Pitchers were dedicated pitchers back then who weren't expected to hit well, and vice versa. No one else has managed it in the same way. Look at Ankiel for a modern example of a player making the transition from pitcher to hitter, and just how poor his is in comparison. Ruth was among the best in the game at both roles.

Well back then also didn't have latino or black players, nor did it have asian players. The talent pool became much deeper during the 50s through today. Players then did not train year round like players recently, they actually had regular jobs then. When people say boxers beat up on cab drivers/policemen/firemen, it actually rings true in this case, ruth was hitting home runs off literally those guys. I mean i have nothing against the guy, i recognize all of his accomplishments, he is clearly the greatest of his era but it wouldn't stand during certain eras.

Albert Pujols is a great player of this era, but kev, don't most great power hitters from this era have an asterisk by their name?

30 Home runs, 96 RBI's, .283 Batting average...considered his second worst year so far in his 12 year career.

Hit 0 home runs and 5 RBI's in April for this season. Ends up in the top 10 in Home Runs and #7 in RBI's in the American League, despite the horrible start.

                      The GOAT, Albert Pujols.
He is the best player in this generation and the best hitter since Williams. He is still playing and when he retires all his numbers can be records. His dedication to the game is on the level of Jeter. They take the sport seriously. My favorite player after Clemente and Bernie.
