There are always going to be some fans that don't give certain fighters the credit they are due and other fans that give give certain fighters more credit than they are due. As you say Mayweather could not be where he is today without being a great fighter. Most fans and experts consider him a great fighter and rate him #1 pfp. today. He has lots of good wins to his credit. But there were some good fighters in his weight class that he could have fought and for some reason or another he choose not to fight them when they were at their best. Floyd might have defeated Cotto, Margarito, Pacquiao, Mosley and Williams on the best day they ever had. But if he did not fight them when they were at their best then nobody knows for sure he would have defeated them. That's why they have real fights. Real fights don't alway go the way most people think they will go.

First one has to fight a superstar fighter. One with a huge name. Like De La Hoya for instance!
Win a very close decision and then retire to avoid the rematch (knowing that DLH was considering retiring before the fight to begin with.)
Also by avoiding the rematch all the fans wanted to see...Retiring also allowed him to duck out the entire division in which at that time was RED HOT!
Then one has to come back and fight LWs struggling to make WW CWs in while He himself struggled to come down in weight. (Be the bigger guy, hint hint)
"I dont feel comfortable @ 147 so i wont be fighting here again. I wasnt right at this weight" - Ricky Hatton! (said thi after his gift win over Collozo!) Then whod he fight? Mayweather! @ what weight? WW!!!! :WORD:
Then one has to sucker punch his opponent! For a win!
Finally fight old past prime fighters and fighters willing to take a check.

Not everyone can do this. Most fighters who get in that ring are fighters. NOT COWARDS! Not everyone can be a Coward!

        End thread! :ANWOD:
You have some nerve. Your boyfriend Manny hasnt fought a WW in 4 years. His last 4 fights his opponents a combined 0 wins at WW going into the fight.

A better than average boxer is needed to start with!
1/Then a promotion company that is willing to back the boxer!
2/A solid trainer with the essental needs covered for proper gym time with proper sparring. 3/ A great matchmaker that the promoter and boxers team respects.

Cherrypicking is done from the start thats how any top contender and/or champion starts out. Thats how their 25-0, the problem for the sport is when their ready to meet even/comparable competition they continue to cherrypick the old and the weak who still might have a decent "numbers" record!

It takes money!!!! and knowledge and experience. Something most fans know nothing about!

Salute to our Troops the Best in the World!! Ray.

              To sum up:

"He would have beat this guy, he would have beat that guy, so why does he get criticized for not fighting them?"

Gee, never heard that ******ed logic before.

Most of the time Floyd is the smaller guy. The dude walks around in the mid 150s. 30 day weigh in Guerrero 159 Floyd 148.3 but Floyds the bigger guy? Great Logic

There's no one left to fight for Floyd because he's cleared out all the competition. Or he would have if he fought them, which is exactly the same thing.

Why do people want to see that fight? Mayweather would just dominate. I can't wait to see Mayweather-Khan though.

                    Or even better:

He needs to build his brand with a few more wins over the top welterweights of the division, while Mayweather fights Danny Garcia.

But the question I ask, if he has cherrypicked all these 'easy' fights why is nobody else undefeated like he is and for so long? why can nobody else follow Floyds blueprint and make hundreds of millions whilst fighting making a career 'bums'?

It's simple, because he is simply far too good...for his own good. You all say he ducked prime Margarito, Tszyu, Cotto, you honestly think these guys would have beat Floyd? He's been in there with numerous world champions and future HOF's, yet hardly one has laid a glove on him.

A comparison to this is with Messi, he gets hate for scoring tap-ins and only finishing off the hard work by his teammates, but again, if its that easy why isn't David Villa scoring 90 goals a season? why does Alexis not score 2 or 3 every game?

As I say, Floyd isn't fighting bums, he isn't picking 'easy' fights, he is just too talented for his own good.
Because Oscar Delahoya isn't around anymore, he was like Sugar Ray Leonard in fame so a win over him got you stardom and PPV status. The only person who didn't receive fame over Delahoya was Mosley because of his steroid use and 2 consecutive losses to the guy who died just can't remember his name
