EXCLUSIVE REPORT from MGM Grand, LAS VEGAS, Nevada - Inside report, on condition of anonymity, from Floyd Mayweather, Jr. camp has it that Mayweather, Jr. is not really aiming for a Pacquiao fight on May 5.
In fact, "he is not interested to fight Pacquiao," the source revealed. "For him, Pacquiao is not near his class."
Mayweather, Jr., according to this said informer, prefers to wait for the result of the fight this coming November 26 between Saul "Canelo/Cinnamon" Alvarez and Kermit Cintron.
Mayweather, Jr. is said to be rooting for Alvarez, according to the source.
The said source told this writer Mayweather, Jr. takes pride of his excellent exposure with 24/7 of HBO, which he claims he created with his great image building. The same source said Cinco de Mayo would just become much bigger with his fight, if materialized, against Alvarez, the newest Mexican rising star.
Floyd (Mayweather, Jr.) says if Cintron wins, he will fight him for the title and pride of being the best," the source added.
He continued: "Floyd (Mayweather, Jr.) may deny this information. But, he rather would want to check out the younger Mexican," referring to Alvarez who hails from Juanacatlán, Jalisco of Mexico.
Alvarez, 21, on the other hand, will be defending his WBC Light Middleweight title at the Monumental Plaza de Toros, Mexico City in Distrito Federal, Mexico. He is undefeated of thirty-eight fights with zero loss and one draw. Cintron, 33, on one hand, has thirty-three wins, four losses and one draw. He is a former welterweight titlist.
"Floyd (Mayweather, Jr) wants to fight Canelo Alvarez," says the informer who sat down with this writer last Saturday night status-post fight of Pacquiao-Marquez trilogy at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Now, the contest to get the best date in May, which is Cinco de Mayo, favors Top Rank Godfather Robert "Bob" Arum. Such purported date is Mexico's biggest public holiday (May 5).
During the post-fight conference of Pacquiao and Marquez last Saturday, Arum said he is bent on working for the fourth encounter of Juan Manuel Marquez and Pacquiao whom he promotes. Pacquiao just recently won a controvertial majority decision over Marquez.
"Forget about Mayweather this time. We have two great fighters. I would have to be friendly to the Mexicans to make this immediate rematch of Pacquiao and Marquez to happen this May." Arum added.
No further development, as of this press time, is reported from both camps of Pacquiao and Marquez, inclusive of HBO Pay-per-View topguns.
