These are official figures, which are likely to underestimate the real number. There are varying estimates from different sources.
In 2030 the French population is projected to be 70 million people, of whom 28 million will be Muslim, or 40% of the French population. By 2040 France will have a Muslim majority.Comment

France doesn't ask for religious information on the census so there are no official figures. What there are are estimates. From declared muslims the estimate is about 2.5 million, from estimates based on ethnic origin of immigrants it is higher, around 4.5 million. These estimates are from 2011.
