    Not a hood-movie per se (not an AA one, anyway), but did you ever see The Basketball Diaries? Jim Carroll fans don't seem to like it generally so far as I can tell, but it's a very decent flick for what it is (depressing, but edifying, too).


    I do like it though didn't know anything about Jim Carroll before that. Definitely did depress me in the later parts of that movie.

      Me either, man. The film made me aware and got me interested in dude.


      I still think it's a solid flick watching it as an adult after digging on Carroll's stuff.

              The most underated hood movie ever and a top 10 movie overall is "clockers" IMO. A movie from the old times that's hood is Bronx tale
