Yes some fighters need to feeling challenged. They fight like mad when facing real danger. Look at Lennox Lewis as a prime example. Against lesser competition, he often looked downright sloppy and uninspired at times. When he faced top guys, he looked fantastic.

It can be all about motivation. That extra boost is often all that is needed. Vanes has been basically sitting in the same spot for two years, that could bore anyone. You can tell he is itching to prove himself, I just hope Bob Arum listens to him.

since turning pro with Freddie Roach in 2005 he has been doing his homework and taking baby steps to get to this point... FINALLY!

Please give the man what he wants, listen to him. He is ready for a step up. He may not be all that pretty, but that's not what it's all about. He needs to make a move while he's still young and start getting paid. Why be like Chavez jr. and beat 50 bums for chump change until he's too old to matter? I give Vanes a chance with anybody at 154, slimmer at 160, but he may be growing.

youre a biased idiot. you dont know this kid and obviously dont have anywhere close to 20/20 vision. he has never ever said anything about money in anything and if you took the biased glasses off and the hate away and watched the ouma fight over you will see that vanes won 95-94... remember you bum, boxing is 10-1 round fights... he may have been beaten soundly in a few rounds but won the majority of the rounds. if you wanna post something here check your facts...

Williams beats him and Sturm beats him. Pavlik is a winnable fight for him. I don't think Vanes would hold up under Williams' pressure and volume. Sturm is a lot more patient and Vanes would do better in that fight. But Sturm guards well enough that I think Vanes wouldn't be able to get to him enough to win. Pavlik just ain't anything special, and has to be low on confidence right now. Vanes can outbox him.
