  • regarding a thread in NSB...

no offense to the posters, but i find most of their comments rather ignorant...
feather fisted genetics? heavy handed genetics?
anyone got a better response than genetics?

personally, i thought he has good power (but form, not so good), but could not land the grounded ones flush, not to mention manny has a good chin (contrary to ignorant comments in NSB that claim manny "lost his chin")

    what else contributes to this...?

If you aint a power puncher nothing will ever turn you into one.

But you can learn to throw your punches correctly and that will of course help with your power because you are landing at the most optimize way possible. Also you need to learn to transfer energy from your legs all the way to the end of your punch simultaneously, However Contrary to what many will say this is very hard to learn to the point it just becomes a muscle memory. This is why when the going gets though in the ring the converted wannabe puncher always lose form and lose whatever power they have. It has to be ingrained in you from youth so that its just a natural why you throw your punches (this is why power punchers can still land with power while they off balance cause they still can get the leverage on their punch from natural instincts).

See you can train, get as strong as you can and of course that will add some strength to your punch's but will not transfer you into a monster power puncher.

The optimal power puncher is someone who is physically strong to start with and has the technique of transferring their energy from there legs all the way to the end of their punch simultaneously with out thinking it just natural.

Reason learning this is hard as an adult is it all boils down to timing, talking fractions of a second. See if your a converted puncher your timing will always be off by a few no matter what and even if you could time everything to the point a natural puncher can without thinking (talking best case scenario), when the converted puncher is under pressure he will lose his form and everything needed to throw a perfect power punch will suffer and he will just throw his regular punches like he always does, even the natural power puncher suffer from this at some point in the fight due to fatigue.

I don't think bradley lacks power as much as other elite fighters have (either developed, or natural) great power.

I said it jokingly to troll some mma fans yersterday, but I told them paulie is a feather fisted boxer but would be manos de piedra in mma. I was kidding, sort of, but the larger point that all boxers can both punch and take a punch more than what we like to give them credit for is true.

Paulie is feather fisted "for an elite boxer", not for a human in general.

And power can be generated in different ways, the base, the way you throw has alot to do with it, so does your body and how you condition yourself and build strength, largely core strength. That also ties together with being able to absorb shots well.

People like to take the easy route and say things like "oh genetics" which is true, but it's not like you are a slave to your genetics when it comes to being an athelete, they have to do with your blueprint from inception, you choose how much they limit you on your own.

Also, speed helps generate power because f=ma, which largely explains the explosive power of someone like Manny.
