I think it would be hilarious to make some of these trolls/alts/idiots write short essays on some fighter/boxing related subject. Then they should get a thread. Of course I don't mean this for all offences, rather for some of the lesser offences. If they fail to complete their assignment then a harsher ban than would've originally been handed out should be assigned.

Picture Brother Jay writing a short history of boxing in The Philippines or eklok describing the origins and evolution of the Philly Shell.

I think it would be a good-natured way to have a couple laughs and make people learn more about the sport.

Floyd Mayweather Jr has been relevant in boxing for almost the entirety of his career. Floyd has been blessed coming from a family of boxers. Boxing families are a recipe that has produced countless world champions through the years. While many may see Floyd as having overcome a tough path considering the many legal troubles the Mayweather clan encounters, he unquestionably benefited from his family's influence nonetheless. Basically, as talented as Tiger Woods is, he wouldn't be Tiger without Earl forcing him to golf at such a young age (appeared on The Tonight Show at just 2 years old.)

American sports media loves to watch athletes fall. It gives them news and it gives them ratings. Polarizing figures such as Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds, Tim Tebow, and Floyd Mayweather are among the biggest sports stars in American history not only because of their fans but but because of their haters and doubters. When it comes to controversial celebrities, there really is no such thing as bad publicity. On a side note, for some reason this concept is completely obtuse and foreign to your average Filipino Pacquiao fan. When thousands of people spend their days writing hate about one guy, they are making him exponentially more famous. I've always assumed it was a cultural thing as no single group of people could be that collectively dense if they possessed a single ounce of knowledge as to how American media works.

The Pacquiao diehards might have their villain in Floyd Mayweather Jr, but boxing as a whole seems to have found it's villain in Bob Arum. Arum might be the most powerful man in boxing. He is a king maker. He counts the chips, deals the cards, and the house always wins. Riding high on a silver medal (gold to many) and being the first American Olympic boxer to defeat a Cuban in 20 years thrust Mayweather into the public eye and into the caring arms of Arum. Arum provided Floyd with exactly the accolades, matchmaking and publicity he needed to be a star.

It is not so much what you know, but who you know. Floyd Mayweather Jr has been a very fortunate beneficiary of that for his entire career. Blessed with remarkable athletic gifts, a family rich in boxing knowledge yet poor in decision making skills and a partnership with the most influential man in boxing has made the Floyd Mayweather Jr we know today. Hard work and dedication have kept him there.

The suggestion (while amusing on some level) is totally stupid. This is an internet forum, not high school English class. Most of the mother****ers who post on this site wouldn't pass a 6th grade English test, anyway. So having them write out an essay would be the ultimate exercise in futility.

this is stupid.

a punishment should fit the crime, its illogical to force some one to write an essay for say something like spamming, but something like a set of rules limiting a spammer to create only 1 thread a day and only able to post once every half hour would make a alot more sense.

an essay might work on racists, like forcing some one who made a racist comment to write up 5000 words on a hero of the insulted race. like if some one insulted african americans make him write an essay on fredrick douglas.

but then you have specific rules for each situation and people argueing if the punsihment fits the crime, and of course the argument of whether the work done is considered valid.
