De Niro should be good.. He is a top notch actor, and I think he could pull it off, plus brings star power... I would be hard pressed to find someone better currently

I wonder if is because of his schedule the production keeps getting delayed. They have increased the plot to include the moore fight as well though

DeNiro is an ATG actor and makes every movie he is in better. But at this stage in his career he seems to be taking roles well bellow his skill set. His last movie with Stallone is a great example of this.

DeNiro's been turning out crap in his post Casino days with the exceptions of Copland and Silver Linings Playbook and maybe the Fockers movies...19 years of crappy movies. Hopefully this won't be another.

yes he may have peaked at casino but man is he extremely busy and doing comedies with the odd drama like the one he teamed up with Pacino a few years back actually Pacino was rumoured to play arcel at first. .

He's become the old veteran fighter at the end but on the road picking up the pennies and using his experience not to get hurt. Loose a few decs. but take the dough and close out on your name & rep. You do reach a point where the only thing left is the name. I remember Gaspar Ortega taking something like 25 fights in his last 25 months!!!!! Him telling me I hope these old legs can carry me through. He would get knocked down from punches he used to laugh at! He made just like Robinson did and Jake and the others who were able to sustain to the end.

Actors do the same thing, a bit easier on the body......

DeNero would be miscast

Arcel was a soft spoken man with a kind face i think DeNero would be miscast
even though it might get people to watch it who normally wouldn't..Because of the star power..But DeNero's not the drawing card he once was

De niro mentioned that Arcel was very quiet type so Im guessing he will do it justice and not go Raging bull on the character.
