  • do Golovkin & Spence fight in a similar manner?

IMO they are body snatchers - puncher boxers......only difference is that Spence is a southpaw with a decent chin & GGG is a orthodox with a granite chin and hammer hands.....

They have a lot of similarities, but I'd say Spence is better in the pocket and Golovkin is better at range.

Both seated & well balanced when throwing hooks. Can see some similarities aesthetically.

Spence is much sloppier. Granted there's a big age/experience difference between them, but Spence looked wild against Algieri at times.

Spence is definitely more explosive but this may be due to his competition so far not being dangerous. Spence fights a lot like George Foreman used to fight, especially when he used to face south paws (Spence being the opposite with him being south paw and facing orthodox). Constant pressure and Flailing an overhanded back hand and a crushing lead hook. Spence, like Foreman, knows he has a very powerful debilitating offense so he being the sharp competitor he is unleashes as much damage when he can where ever he can while staying balanced. I haven't see him use shifting tactics like Golovkin does paying homage to Dempsey and Duran.

Golovkin seems to have a much more acute and vast ring range of boxing experience. As he should. He takes a more conservative approach with fighters that pose more of a threat if he finds something that works. Because he is so powerful and such a great puncher, a lot of times this can be his constant jab (like in the Lemiuex fight). He found early that he can land it at will so he used to the fullest extent, David's failure was finding an adjustment. Golovkin comes across as much more of a professional. He is all business and is always making fine tune adjustments as the fight progresses. The longer your in the ring with him, the more knowledge he gains, creating more ways of attack and creating traps. I haven't seen this from Spence yet. He has made adjustments but not without finding failure first. Golovkin just gets better. Spence will normally make adjustments between ramping up his offense and standing back to look for a counter to unleash a more damaging combo. Spence and Golovkin are constantly controlling range. We have seen neither fighters take a beating although Spence being younger hasn't seen any Maidana types yet. Golovkin has had fought aggressively competent fighters but they get disarmed early. It'll be interesting if Spence can take a Pacquiao approach and set traps and play it safe while hurting his opponent. Both are knockout artist, but can Spence dial down his offense and win playing it safe, while still being himself as a puncher-boxer? I guess we will see.
