Check out the weights for like the new Camaro vs a 69 Camaro with a big block or a new Hemi Challenger vs a 70 hemi Challenger. There's no reason that the newer one weighs so much. Hell even Honda's are way heavier. My 92 VX hatch weighs way less than a 2014 and the 2014 doesn't get as good gas mileage.
You really don't know much about cars in relation to gov't regulations.

The government actually demands advancement in cars. Ever heard of CAFE standards?

As to weight, that's due to all the safety and other features the government mandates cars must have. Those things add weight to the car. Car companies would love to have the option to produce cars their way to save weight on certain cars like the Challengers, Stangs, and Camaros, for example. But they aren't free to design cars as they choose, they have to build cars as the Government allows them too.

It's also worth noting California recently passed a law forcing manufacturers to sell certain amounts of electric cars, whether the citizens there want to buy them or not.

I pretty much was stating that our government is holding back cars lol. I don't give 2 ****s about government regulations. The government regulations do nothing but hold cars back. Name these advancements that the government demands to be used I'd really like to know. Also while naming these advancements provide details into how it aids fuel economy or performance. I could care less about air bags since they have been shown to be faulty and cause injury. Seat belts have also been a two way street since they can save your life or potential aid in death.

Why are the more fuel efficient and advanced VW's banned in the U.S.? Why are the blind spot cameras banned in U.S. vehicles? What is the problem with window tint? 88 HF CRX gets 45mpg, my 92 VX civic got 45mpg stock, now name me one gas powered Honda today that gets 45mpg?

Safety features will not add a thousand pounds to a car genius. Air bags only weigh so much lol. The Z28 Camaro weighs a lot less than a standard 1LE SS... they can make them lighter if they want. Car manufacturers don't ask the government to design their cars for them. They have certain guidelines for certain areas of the cars.

Those cars already exist but there's no middle ground yet they are either butt ugly as fk I wouldn't wanna be caught dead in one type of car. Or extreme sexiness of luxury pay out the ass to own one car.

the biggest problem with electric cars besides oil company lobbyists is that the batteries still suck. battery technology needs to get a lot better, the best electric car has a cruising range of 200 miles max on one charge and must be charged again all night once it's been emptied. a gas powered car with good mileage such as Honda, VW, or Toyota can go 600 miles on a tank of gas. as soon as there's a big jump in battery technology and a big rise in gas prices, electric cars will become very popular. i'd like to see this, because i saw an electric drag car, it was a ford escort with an electric motor, and it was very fast, and electric motors have instant torque
