So if it's a built in hard drive, does that mean a friend can't bring his hardrive over to play his files on it? i was wondering about this.

Correct the new HDD comes in a new different proprietary form factor which cannot be swapped with the old HDD's. I believe you could open their respective casings and swap them though that would be a hassle.

Microsoft are ****s, they could have just made so any laptop hdd fits but they want to charge you double the amount of a regular hdd.
