On one side, dude and his family have been there for generations but on the other hand, dude refused to abide by the law and stopped paying his grazing fees.

He never owned the land where the cattle are grazing. Its the same as starting your own lumber company and going into federal land and cutting their trees. Its not his land, and never was. If he wants to use the land, he should pay for it

So if you own a plot of land and some guy just brings his cattle over to graze on it, you wouldnt have a problem? This isnt the guys land

No, its about the Rancher freeloading off public land for 20+ years without paying proper grazing fees, then claiming the usual "tyrant govt'' is taking away his rights. He said his family had been grazing the land since 1887, yet they never owned the land since the Govt bought the land in 1848.

If he cant support his cattle grazing on his own land, then he should buy more land instead of freeloading off of Govt land. These are the same people who will bash obama and the govt for giving "handouts", yet here they are trying to freeload off the Govt. Its laughable

How bad is the destruction of the land due to the cows grazing?

I support the ranchers efforts. From what I can gather, he has no problem paying fees to Nevada, but the Bureau of Land Management who are trying to restrict his grazing on the basis of protecting endangered turtles.

I am still gathering information on Sen. Harry Reid's son involvement in this.... and a Chinese company trying to build a solar plant on that land.
