...and the history of it's immigration laws.
It's only white people who get angry about this stuff. Because they came here "legally", they claim the tax-paying "illegal" immigrants need to be deported/throw in in jail. ****ing clueless, they are.
When the white citizens of this country came here "legally", it wasn't because of their noble, law-abiding intentions. It's because the immigration laws of America only gave white people a thumbs up to get in. You know that until the late 1800s there were no national guidelines for immigration at all(only white people in America could own property, tho)?? And if your family came later than that, there's a very good chance your family came here "illegally" (which really means, didn't file all the paperwork or check with the border upon arrival), but their kids of course became citizens due to birthright. So, lucky for you, you get to stay!
The 1870 Naturalization Act limited American citizenship to "white persons and persons of African descent". You know what you had to do to legally come here if you were white? Show up, and within a certain amount of time fill out a survey. What happens if you didn't?? Two dollar fine.
No one was harassing your family about weather they did or didn't enter at the legal checkpoints or overstay their visas. Immigrants in this country the past century and a half weather they were Polish, Italian, Mexican, Jewish, Russian, Japanese, whatever... have always had it the hardest. They did the worst jobs for the least money, and the gains they received were very few. They came to America to provide a better life for their family and it's future generations.
And as we Americans sit here today in the richest country in the world talking about **** as frivolous as boxing matches, it's clear their hardships paid off. We should be thankful our ancestors packed their **** up and high tailed it for the land of opportunity, and I think it's pretty ****ing shameful to attempt to prevent *anyone* else from doing the same.
And on the "job taking" note:
According to James Smith, a senior economist at Santa Monica-based RAND Corporation and lead author of the United States National Research Council's study "The New Americans: Economic, Demographic, and Fiscal Effects of Immigration", immigrants contribute as much as $10 billion to the U.S. economy each year.[74] The NRC report found that although immigrants, especially those from Latin America, were a net cost in terms of taxes paid versus social services received, overall immigration was a net economic gain due to an increase in pay for higher-skilled workers, lower prices for goods and services produced by immigrant labor, and more efficiency and lower wages for some owners of capital. The report also notes that although immigrant workers compete with domestic workers for some low skilled jobs, some immigrants specialize in activities that otherwise would not exist in an area, and thus are performing services that otherwise would not exist, and thus can be beneficial to all domestic residents[75] About 21 million immigrants, or about 15 percent of the labor force, hold jobs in the United States. However, the number of unemployed is only seven million, meaning that immigrant workers are not taking jobs from domestic workers. Rather, they are doing jobs that would not have existed had the immigrant workers not been in the United States.
