  • Khans problem is the combination of no power + no chin

    You can't have neither one.

Joe calzaghe was basically khan with an iron chin.

Roy Jones was khan with ko power

When you got neither you get amir khan

Can't keep a guy off him and can't take the shots when the gap is closed.

He's always going to be limited against top level opponents.

Brook will stop him if they fight, khan can't keep brook off or take his shots.

Not too mention his lack of defence, ring IQ, inability to fight inside, inability to effectively control range etc

He has very quick hands, quick feet, a huge workrate and lots of heart. That has gotten him to where he. Everything else in his game is seriously lacking

Khan's lack of defense is his biggest problem, he's far too easy to hit. When packing china, you have to up your defensive game. Khan fights like a banger, it's asking for trouble.

All that combined with no power and no chin made him a worthy challenger for Saul's bull**** cherry belt
What a champion and warrior Saul is lol

I hope Khan continues fighting for 10 more years. We'll have the greatest KO compilation in boxing history.

Khan has handspeed and decent size at welterweight.

            That's it. He's completely overhyped.

First off Khan is a very good fighter, and actually much more versatile than given credit for. His main problem in my eyes is that he is naturally an attacking fighter with an attack first mentality. He thinks offensively first but he fights from a boxing stance, similar to someone like Erik Morales, but the difference as you said and the part I agree with is he doesn't have a good chin to go with it. Fighters like that think about what they are going to land first and have a natural forward momentum, they will always get hit and Khan gets hit. Khan has an awesome offensive arsenal in many ways, but another good point you make is that he is lacking the power to make him a truly offensive savant, although between the two the chin is definitely the biggest problem.

Virgil has tried to get him to box and use his attributes in a different way but its just not natural and does not mesh with his natural tendencies in the ring and although Hunter has done a good job he will never be a pure boxer at this late stage, those things are ingrained in the fighter at a young age, and thats why Virgil is correct when he says that had he had Khan's talent to work with when he was a kid he would probably be much more formidable today.

He just can't use his natural style in certain fights at the elite level because of the problems you mention. His versatility allows him to box off the back foot but this does not come naturally to him, so gets caught between two styles and he makes mistakes and isn't elusive enough to be effective, and I stress at the ELITE level.

In a nutshell I think the above are Khan's main issues. There have been fighters like him in previous generations, its just that most fans on this site have only been watching boxing for the last 5-10 years maximum. This is why people are so divided by him as a fighter, because they don't understand him, most boxing fans need a like for like fighter style wise to gauge someone like Khan, because they don't really understand the sport from a technical point of view, but currently there is no one else like him out there, so they don't get why he is so highly thought of. He is a flawed talent, who is able embarrass and has outclassed some very good fighters probably more one sided than any other fighter could, but he will never be consistent because there are too many flaws in his makeup, and as I said before his attributes don't match up with his natural style and instincts in the ring.

Its not even the lack of power which hurts him very much to be honest, it is the chin, because that is the thing which doesn't allow him to stay in the pocket, it is the thing which keeps him from sitting down on his shots, it is the thing which limits the types of punches he is able to throw. It is the part which doesn't allow him to be the attacking boxer he needed to be.

NOPE! Dude literally has speed and nothing else. He even messes up his hands sometimes throwing the wild uncoordinated flurries.
