I suspect its a theory that is propagated by the Austrians, but has there ever actually been a real free market since the stone age?

Hasn't it always been a monopolistic crony capitalist market?
    for the most part... yes...

but thats not the markets problem, thats because govt can never resist getting into bed with big business...

Its like a chicken and the egg problem.

If you have an unbridled free market, who regulates it? Government.

Human nature would soon dictate that eventually the successful would be able to start to buy government favors etc.

Seems like no matter how pure intentions are in the beginning, greed and avarice always prevail.

a true free market needs no regulation...

the founding fathers had it pretty close to good when they wrote the plans up... BUT leaders have since adapted the rules to make the game play in their favor

Probably not, but its a fantasy. Government, like it or not will always exist.

The closest to a perfect and real free market model that I know of is my Sunday Farmers market.

Hong Kong has been voted the world's most free market....

ideally we should aim for a government of laws and not of men

yes govt is necessary, but very limited

I think universal health care is a great thing. If people can not afford to see a doctor, like many of our citizens, then that way they would be able to recieve basic care albiet not as good as those paying top dollar.

I agree with you on Obama's healthcare.

Its not universal healthcare or socialism, its liability protection for the insurance co's and its a way to help them pay for their derivative scams by forcing everyone to buy private insurance.

                    Its a corporate fascist takeover.
