LAS VEGAS (AP) A Nevada regulator says boxer Lamont Peterson failed a drug test, and a May 19 rematch in Las Vegas against former title holder Amir Khan is in doubt.

Nevada Athletic Commission executive Keith Kizer tells The Associated Press that he learned Monday that the WBA (super) and IBF light welterweight champion tested unacceptably high for synthetic testosterone in a urine test administered in March by the Las Vegas-based Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.

Kizer says separate tests on a second sample from the 28-year-old Peterson were found positive on May 2.

Kizer says Peterson's lawyer is promising an explanation.

But as of Tuesday, Peterson has no license to fight Khan as scheduled next week at the Mandalay Bay resort.

Kizer says Peterson won't get a license unless the matter can be resolved.

He needs to apply for a license from the Luxembourg Boxing federation, worked for Haye and Chisora.

Well then, looks like it's off.

I really would love to know how this happened... he surely can't have known about it? What idiot asks for extra testing while they're taking illegal substances? He must have not known about it.

Margarito got a year for trying to cheat. I expect Peterson to get something similar. No way does the fight continue.

It looks like VADA kinda royally ****ed this one up.

When you have a fight scheduled, and fighters already in camp, you need to OVERcommunicate.

VADA took forever to test, re-test and communicate the results. Moreover, they didn't communicate the results to the Commission until last week.

It wasn't Team Peterson's responsibility to report, but the ETHICAL thing to do would have been to come forward and be candid.

                Team Peterson are a*holes. Completely.

...looks like Floyd chose well by spending more to use USADA.

Yo this Khan vs Peterson fiasco has to be one of tge wildest in boxing history.

Hometown refs, controversial point deductions, upset victory, feel good story about Peterson's homeless past, one of the best fights in 2011, Mystery man, golden boy protests, arums tournament involving peterson vs marquez, rematch negotiations, and now this?

They can make a movie on this ****. Lmao

                  Gotta love it.
