Looks like you don't know much about The Stone Temple Pilots.
Their album "Core" was a template for grunge to be an anything goes genre, not typical of the more pure grunge bands like you know which stuck to pure angst (Nirvana) to technical melodic instrument pieces (Pearl Jam) or to grunge players with balls of dynamite (Soundgarden). They somewhat had a fresh approach to the genre.
The album "Purple" ODOH was the band's best and critically acclaimed and had widespread acceptance overseas, and established STP a cult following around the globe.
To say that STP was a one hit wonder is ignorance.
