Thanos was second only to The Living Tribunal (third if we throw in OOA) with the I.G. Skyfather's, cosmic abstracts, Galactus, the big boy Celestials. All of them COMBINED couldn't defeat Thanos.

With out some kind of plot induced bone head move by Thanos, this isn't even a contest.
