The man was in a zone where plenty of people had been saved before. Nobody atempted to revive him properly. You can't just put a gas mask on someone for 5 minutes and expect them to just get up, it takes hours. A good Sherpa could have made the trip from the previous camp in around 15 minutes and administered oxygen and medical aid. Sure it was risky, but a team of 3 strong climbers wouldn't of had too much difficulty. Even if he didn't respond, at least they would have tried.

The fact is, if you aren't willing to help a dying man on Everest, you shouldn't be up there in the first place. The expedition leader on that day didn't want to help because it would have meant some of his customers wouldn't have reached the top which would have been bad for business. Nobody tried to help him properly and that isn't what mountaineering is about. Not that 90% of people on Everest are qualified to be there anyway.

Experience climbers and life long climbers say that Everest is now too much of a tourist attraction. It's scaled now by millionaires, doctors, people that can afford to to buy thrills. Their basecamps, food, beds are all set up by the companies they pay so they really don't do anything but just climb. Everything is mapped out for them by their guides which lead them up the top.

They say it's not the mountain you climb, but the journey you took.

The mountain is still dangerous. There has been a death on mount everest every calender year since 1978. The mountain has claimed 10 lives in 2012 so far

But if you want a real challenge in life try climbing ANNAPURNA. in central nepal. Its not the tallest mountain in the world and has a mortality rate of about 40-41 %. Ill pass

Yeah, K2 is pretty deadly as well. It has claimed the most lives of any mountain.

Yeah. One word to describe ANNAPURNA is its probably the most ducked mountain in the world lol. Would be a beautiful site to get to the top of everest though. I read a story of a man who is suppose to be the best mountaineer-er and he climbed everest by himself with no oxygen. that would be a pretty lonely time at night lol

But i read K2 is suppose to be the hardest technically to climb

If the man himself is not willing to get up and try, then there is really nothing they can do.....but yeah - you can send some experienced guys to help him get off his feat, but if he doesn't make that choice to get up with his own free will, that's his death sentence....

Of course, but I think as mountaineers you owe another human being that chance to get up on his feet. A couple minutes of assistance just isn't going to cut it at that height.
