Everyone knows that Corrie was a very good heavyweight going to war with Vitali and KO'ing Wladimir. His conditioning and training were a problem, potentially if Corrie had the right conditioning could he have been a Heavyweight ATG? with his performance against a VK. I think he could have been.

well, you determine who is an ATG based on resume. his resume was nowhere near that of a great fighter. outside of wladimir, which is a win that looks better every day considering how great klitschko is, sanders has no big wins. none at all.
he was a very gifted athlete (big, fast, one of the hardest left handed punchers you will ever see, and later a scratch golfer. talk about a varied toolbox...)
he was also a southpaw. we can't overstate that. they're very rare at HW. there have been very few HW in history who have been that big and fast, southpaw, and knockout punchers. i can't think of any, in fact. he had unique tools.
did he have that type of talent?
it's possible, but talent alone does not a great fighter make. talent alone can make a good fighter, but not a great one. you need the serious work ethic to be a great, and he didn't have that. very few of the great fighters didn't train hard. duran. toney. locche.Comment

Yes, 2 of them were cruisers, and Sprott and Cole were never world champs, but they were good fighters. And don't tell me Sprott is a bum, cause he isn't. You probably never saw him box, but I have. He got robbed against Dimitrenko, beat Timo Hoffman TWICE on my scorecard, he could box, period.
What I mean by that is that Sanders resúme suggests that he is a very dangerous, hard punching southpaw with excellent handspeed.
Calling Sanders a nobody would be the same as calling Jimmy Young a nobody. But those who know boxing know that Young beat both Ali and George Foreman.Comment

He was very unique fighter. he also had a very good chin. shame he didn't back up his talent with hard work, but he'll still be remembered as the man who TKOed Wlad.Comment

Potentially a truly excellent fighter...
.....but sadly Corrie was never forced to live the sport or taken right out of his comfort zone by training, learning or working overseas. Should have been moved to the US and schooled properly by Steward or Atlas.
An awkward, big 6'4 southpaw, with explosive 'one-punch-ends-it-all-power', super fast-hands, naturally athleticism and a decent chin.
Turned-up in Hannover seemingly at the end of the road and not really in great shape and iced Wlad K; can you imagine what what he could have done if someone had got him seriously fit, fighting regularly and with some decent gym experience when he was in his late twenties.
Definitely a case of what could have been.Comment

Ya man. .David Tua's potential had him as an ATG as well. but he didn't make it.
Come to think about it if we judging on 'potential' we can list like 20 different heavyweights.. 'Potential'
The truth of the matter was Sanders never had the stamina or the awareness to become an ATG. His in ring awareness was horrible against Tubbs and Rahman.. he knocked out Wlad because Wlad got a questionable chin.Comment
