Someone who grabs an assault rifle and inexplicably murders his entire family, is clearly insane and if that's the case, which I can almost guarantee it is, I can assure you, that person is NOT thinking twice about enduring possible torture.

I could see that changing if there was a more fitting punishment handed out than a simple monetary fine and 3 square meals for however many years...

Pushing for more responsibility and accountability would be a great step in the right direction imo. If a person chooses to get drunk and doesnt take the steps prior to that to insure safety after the fact, then they are responsible for what happened regardless of a lack of "rational thinking" after getting drunk. Designated drivers, handing over keys, all things that can happen while sober to make sure a tragedy doesnt happen later due to poor judgement.

I apologize for going slightly off topic with drunk driving... Just an easy example for retributive justice.

Once again if we subscribed to your way of thinking, we'd have no understanding of anything. But we do, just like I know the reason you are so mentally inept is because of a variety of factors. Like your upbringing, your mother ingesting drugs and and alcohol during pregnancy, eating paint chips containing lead, being dropped on your head, doing hard drugs yourself, possibly dropping out high school. All could be contributing factors as to why.
