  • Carlos Zarate

Where does Carlos Zarate rank among the great bantamweights in history head to head? I've watched a lot of video on Zarate I'm always amazed at how he reallty bust fighters up and breaks them down. I think it would be hard to find a harder puncher at that weight. Anybody here have additional knowledge of how good Zarate was and where her ranks?

I saw many of Zarate's fights, including a couple live. He had as much power as I've ever seen P4P. Besides being heavy handed, he was sharp and accurate. He'd have a huge chance against any bantamweight ever.

He was in his mid 30's coming off a 7 year layoff. But that's what happens when you depend on Boxrec. Among his "garbage opposition" was Zamora, Davila, Martinez, Gomez, Pintor, Fenech, and Zaragoza.

His win over Zamora should push him up. Previous to the fight it was thought of as an all time great matchup.

Really liked Zarate, out & out ko specialist, who could go the distance if necessary. Was amongst a particularly rich crop of bantams at the time. Feasted on weaker opposition to get started but fought in the top teir throughout and beyond his prime. Imo, not quite up there with Olivares and Al Brown, but very possibly could have been, had he not chosen to nip into the super-Bantams and have an all or nothing shoot out with the naturally stronger Gomez.. Lower end of the top5, i feel is about right for ranking him.
