  • Is doing 100s of sit ups another example of moronic backwards boxing training?

Or is it effective and smart?

    Why?

To me it seems if you can do 100 sit ups they are no longer building much muscle, if they arnt building muscle they arnt adding much protection to your organs and you are just wasting alot of time and effort.

Surely youd be better off doing far less reps like 5 x 10 using a weighted resistance and increasing the weight as it gets easier, so you are always at the 10 rep range where max muscle is built which you need for Armour for your organs.

Have you ever done a sit-up? Doing 3 sets of 30 is really light work. You clearly don't know what they're for as the point isn't to build thicker muscles. It's to strengthen and condition the midsection. No one is trying to build a thicker stomach. Lol....

Go try some exercise and stop posting about what might happen if you ever actually exercise.

Your abs arent used in any significant endurance type way, they are needed for armor to protect your organs, yes ive done many sit ups pull ups and press ups, and ive done bench press, weighted pull ups and weighted sit ups, the many reps sit ups and pull ups are worthless! You have to increase weight to keep them effective not increasing reps.

Increasing reps doesn't increase muscle size or strength, it does increase endurance but you dont use your abs that way at all in a fight, you just tense them alot bracing impacts, you dont even need good endurance to do that.

The primary point of abs is for armor isnt it?

I see teh same ******ed thing being done with neck exercises, instead of a big neck liek Tysons or Holyfields or chugovs, many boxers are making their necks enduranced, when they need muscle. Its dumb as hell, only in boxing can you get trainers and athletes this ******ed.

            1. Abs are not primarily for armor
            2. You need ab endurance over strenght, because you gotta fight 12 rounds in boxing and therefore need to have your abs working perfectly over long period of time
            3. If you got no neck endurance you won´t be able to hold your hands up for 12 rounds

            4. Besides heavyweight divison fighters usually dont try to put on muscles.
They try to stay in the same division / in the lower divisions.
Therefore is muscle mass counter productive.

And also heavy reps makes you slow. Better explosive reps + long endurance reps.

Muscle mass in the abs or neck isnt much mass at all, its beneficial to have plenty regardless of weight division, its not at all like big legs or upper body where you have to be very careful about how much muscle you have, abs and neck are very small areas of muscle.

Abs contract isometrically alot during a fight, thats it, you dont need the type of endurance that a load of concentric sit ups give you, also the tensing abs isometrically when hit isnt the same as working a muscle over and over concentrically, its alot easier, you can tense your abs a 100 times and it isnt that hard nor does it take much training.

Your argument is inane and so I will no longer entertain you.

Isometric abdominal training while someone uses a medicine ball on you, do the exact thing ud do when being punched (ie crunch a little in the direction of the blow to thicken the wall of the muscle on that side, and tense to provide a wall before your organs) when the med ball comes at you from all angles, go easy on the ribs esp floating ribs at the start, go heavy on the liver center line and solar plexus you need to know how to deal with shots here.

The medicine ball drill will be much more intensive ie at a higher rate than in a real fight so you overcompensate for when you do the real thing.

                  +

Heavy resistance abdominal pull over curls 3 x 10 increasing weight each week, also twisting sit ups with resistance too to help cover your ribs.

                  Lower back work for balance

Here's Manny Pacquiao's ab routine. It seems to have worked really well for him and helped him become a multiple weight world champion.

What have you accomplished with your methods, AlexKid?
