(Reuters) - The World Boxing Association has confirmed a new belt, created especially for the Heavyweight division, awarded to Alexander Povetkin (25-0, 17KOs) following last night's 2nd round demolition of Hasim Rahman (50-8-2, 41 KOs).
The WBA Yellow Championship celebrates the fighter who has done the most to avoid Wladimir Klitschko and Povetkin is its first recipient.
"I can't believe it", beamed Povetkin, who has defeated such contenders as Rahman, Cedric Boswell and Teke Oruh, "I've worked so hard to avoid getting the **** beaten out of me by Wladimir Klitschko and I've finally been truly rewarded. I'd like thank my former trainer Teddy Atlas for doing a huge amount to make this happen."
Povetkin had a chilling warning for the younger of the Klitschko brothers: "Wladimir Klitschko, I am coming for you in 2019."
