Pros and Cons of Jailbreaking an Ipod touch..?

Anyone know? I just bought a 32 gb Ipod touch and am wondering what's the good/bad of jailbreaking?

I just used this tutorial - Greenpoison



And it didn't work and my screen turned red with lines through it, I thought it was toasted but I'm trying to restore it now. Had to of been a scam, what do ya'll recommend using since I almost lost the ipod in 1 day trying a vid from youtube.
