What happens is that for the most part, the fighters that aren't worth remembering.

    Aren't remembered

The ones that are remembered are remembered for good reason, and over 100+ years, it's likely that there are going to be much better fighters over the course of that timespan than all at one time, today.

    Simple.

Obviously someone is out of it if they're saying Jack Johnson is going to beat the Klitschkos.

But not so much if they are saying George Foreman would.

    You get what I'm saying?

If they sent Sonny Boy Jaro back in time he would be considered The GOAT.

There's no question that Robinson, Greb, Louis etc were greater fighters than Pac, Mayweather and the Klitschkos. For me, that just means that they fought/beat greater opponents in a much tougher era.

When trying to compare these fighters head to head, it ain't that easy. However, there was a huge talent pool back then, and boxers had much more fight experience.

exactly. the trainers arent as good today as they used to be and as a result the skill level is much lower. on top of that ppl in general arent as tough today as they used to be including fighters. perhaps most important of all fighters today dont hone their craft the way they used to.

today fighters box 2-3 times a year and spends several months on vacation, they dont spend as much time in the gym or have nearly as many fights. back in the day fighters stayed busy and were in the gym year round honing their skills and improving, then testing their skills in the ring on a regular basis further learning. if you had a stylistic weak point it would get exposed in the ring, you couldnt avoid certain styles nearly forever the way fighters do today so you better improve or find another occupation.

you can see the results in the ring, moder fighters are not only fundamentally inferior they are much more one dimensional too. they dont have the skills or the fighting intelligence fighters used to, anyone who truly understands boxing can see that clear as day. there are some exceptions though, a few modern fighters who could hang with the old timers.

the ignorance of the fans doesnt help either, alot of ppl tend to compare moder fighters with the very best ever. match anyone with guys like robinson, armstrong and duran and they will come up short, before their time as well as after.

Fans in every sport are guilty of this. Imo, people were tougher back in the day, but at the same time athletic training/science/and such as progressed to much that athletes today are very good at their specialty.

Id be interested in seeing Duran vs pacquiao, imo it would be a tough hard fight for both. Duran was a beast, of course, but pac is/was aswell, and imo a little sharper/crisper/shorter with his punches. Inb4 duran crushes pac with his pinkee

its like this in regards to everything across the board.

older paintings are more valuable & better (even though you can find artists to replicate any famous painting) & why older boxers are thought of as unbeatable gods, why old black & white movies always have ridiculous scores on rotten tomatoes no matter how hard they suck.

                Why?

                TO PRESERVE HISTORY.

                More importantly, THEIR HISTORY.

That's what that is all about.

Not quite. The point about paintings is irrelevant as it's not about who can replicate it now, it's about who did it first.

Imagine if the Pacquiaos and Mayweathers of today had better training and were fighting on a regular basis, they'd be that much harder to defeat....

no they are not overated. That where the term "they dont make them like they used to". Its even applied to humans.Boxers fought up to 8 times a year 15 rounds, same day weigh in i dont think its could be done today.
