  • What makes 60-80's fighers so much better than today?

Is it nostalgia that clouds minds? Were guys actually bigger per weight class compared to today? Were all fighters of these generations better technically then the preceding generations even the c/b grade? Is it that boxing was bigger mainstream in those times? I mean seriously I'd like to hear all reasons that actually make sense and are logical as to what makes these nostalgic fighters that much better!!! Do other sports downgrade better players of now compared to past like boxing? Is it the fighters persona nowadays compared to old that clouds your judgment over the fighters skill? Did fighters not "duck" fighters with less reward than risk back then compared to now? Were there promotional or network contracts that blocked fights from happening like there is now? Is it that they were allowed things back then in the ring that is now banned for some apparent reason?

What is the average fight night/day weight of a welterweight in the 60's, 70's, 80', etc... compared to now? Which generation is actually fighting the bigger/heavier guys per weight class?

They came in almost identical to their weigh in weights back then.

Manny, Floyd, Sergio, GGG are keeping it old school, but the rest are bastardizing the sport.

          TOUGHER! Mentally and Physically!

Now ALL of these fighters today play Politics or their Managers and Promoters play it for them compared to someone like Hagler who despite already knowing he has a big money fight coming up against Leonard, instead of playing it safe and waiting for that fight he goes out and take on a dangerous, hard hitting, undefeated and younger John Mugabi...none of the fighters today would ever take that risk or their Manager or Promoter wouldn't allow them to do so

Now you got fighters today have haven't don't **** in the sport of boxing but they are already protected and already cherry picking their fights to try and stay undefeated

Also the Networks and Promoters are now running boxing completely compared to back then the Fighters had more say at least I know Hagler Did! Guys like Ali, Hagler, they said who they wanted to fight next and would tell their Promoter and Manager to set it up and the fight would happen now the Promoters and Networks have the say and the right to refuse or accept fights

Nostalgia an the fact that according to the history romanticizers all modern fighters with the exception of the "slick" few like Mayweather and Hopkins are garbage that would get taken out by the average 60'-80' bum.

Is that why Manny came in at 147 while fighting at 130?

there were more elite fighters at one time. right now there is floyd and manny and marquez a few steps below.

a loss wasnt a death sentence and they fought tougher guys more ofter not as much ducking

it took longer to get to the top, more tests to prove that u were worthy

and due to reasons i listed and many more the old school guys developed better tecnique

a guy lamotta considered a brawler in his day had an enormous skillset great jab understandig of style

the pressure fighters/infighters/brawlers/swarmers used to know how to fight pure boxers and the pure boxers used to have tougher chalengers to prove there skiil against

after really studying old fights and new fights with no bias u can clearly see a skill gap

So did Floyd back then, what's your point? I'm talking about now, and did we forget about Floyd cheating JMM on the scales?
