  • Bernard Hopkins vs Jovin Mercado

    Round 1 Hopkins 10/8
Hopkins came out extremely aggressive and landed some
solid shots before dropping Mercado with a left hook
right at the end of the round, it was not surprise really
as that left hook had already landed cleanly once or twice
    before he dropped Mercado

Hopkins came out and nailed him with the left hook again
as he dropped Mercado and the ref deemed
him too hurt to carry on.

    Ray Mercer vs Lionel Washington

    Round 1 Mercer
Mercer landed the jab and few hard right hands and
nice hook, Washington largely on the defensive

    Round 2 Mercer
Not much happened but Mercer landed to the body
    and with a 1 2

    Round 3 Mercer
Mercer's best round so far as he let his combos fly
and nailed Washington with a number of right hands

Mercer nailed Washington with a big right that dropped
Washington and the reffed waved the fight off. Fair stoppage
    although Washington complained.

    • This is embarrassing to admit, but a couple nights ago I watched Hagler - Hearns... for the first time.

It's kinda like not having had seen Star Wars. Even if you haven't seen it you obviously know the story well enough.

That being said, I liked it. It was pretty exciting. Plus I got to see Hagler's "War" hat.

        I re-watched Dirrell-Froch...

Damn, in my mind I thought it was closer but after watching it... the wrong man won indeed... I think the first five rounds are all Dirrell's... could PROBABLY give Froch the 3rd I believe...

I'm I'm right I thought Froch won the next two...

        8th was Dirrell's again...

It was a Froch round 9 IMO if I remember right... 10th Dirrell gets point deducted but hurts Froch at the end of the round... kinda draw like...

11th and 12th pretty much also Dirrell rounds...

8-4 (8-3-1) or 7-4 (7-4-1) if you are kind too Froch... bad decision

Archie Ray Marquez vs Derrick Campos

            Round 1 Archie Ray Marquez

Not much in the round as Marquez started
very slow but took over a little down the
stretch to just about edge the round

            Round 2 Archie Ray Marquez

Not much landing effectively although Marquez got his jab
going a little and managed to hook of it and landed that
punch a couple of times, right uppercut was also effective

            Round 3 Archie Ray Marquez

Again another round where not much effective landed although Marquez
just about landed a few more shots to the body and he scored a counter
            left hook toward the end.

            Round 4 Derrick Campos

Derrick Campos just edged this on aggression imo, Marquez did not
land much effectively and caught a few shots from Campos, particularly down
            the stretch.

            Round 5 Archie Ray Marquez
Better round for Marquez as he got his fast combination's off and landed his
most consistently effective punches of the fight imo, accuracy still sucks though.

            Round 6 Archie Ray Marquez

Campos started well and got the best of a combo between the two but he let
his workrate fall off and as the round wore on Marquez started landing
the jab and scored with a combo toward the end and was a little more active overall

            Round 7 Archie Ray Marquez

Got the jab going and countered when Campos rushed him, Campos upped his
workrate but he was too inaccurate and wild with his punches as Marquez
            landed the better shots.

Round 8 Archie Ray Marquez 10/8

Campos was doing okay in this last round as he landed the best two punches
of the round a left hook right hand at the beginning of the round he then upped
his workrate although toward the end of the round Marquez dropped him, Campos
was not hurt and aggrieved that he felt it was not a KD got up and went back at
Marquez aggressively as the bell rang.

Campos was too inactive and when he did throw punches he was lunging in and
leaving himself open, Marquez's accuracy was also shockingly bad imo although he
did land with good speed and threw in combination.

              Chris Avalos vs Jose Nieves

              Round 1 Jose Nieves

Jose Nieves landed the best punches of the round imo he
nailed Avalos with a right straight left then later in the round
he landed another clean straight left that dipped Avalos legs

              Round 2 Chris Avalos

Chris Avalos dropped Nieves with a right hand
and stayed on him the whole round pinning him
on the ropes and going to the body and head

              Round 3 Chris Avalos
pinned Nieves back in the ropes almost the entire
round, Avalos tried to find the gaps in his tight
defence as he languished on the ropes

Pinned Nieves back on the ropes and exploaded with a
combo that landed and crumbled Nieves in a heap, Nieves
got up but Avalos picked a shot that dropped
Nieves again, Nieves did prolly could of got up but it
seemed he had no desire to and got up as the ref got to 10.

              • Gabriel Campillo vs Beibut Shumenov

                Round 1 Beibut Shumenov

Clear round for Beibut Shumenov, more aggressive &
                more active.

                Round 2 Beibut Shumenov

Beibut Shumenov was more aggressive and consistent
throughout and he landed couple of hard right hands,
Gabriel Campillo was making an argument that he was gonna
take the round but Beibut Shumenov came back and closed
it out and did more over the 3 min

Round 3 Gabriel Campillo (very close)

Close competitive round but i went for Gabriel Campillo
because Gabriel Campillo head shots are were more
effective than Beibut Shumenov's body shots although some
might score this for Beibut Shumenov as he was consistent
with his attacks, albeit with less quality imo.

                Round 4 Gabriel Campillo

Beibut Shumenov started well and landed some good body
shots but Gabriel Campillo took over mid round and
clearly landed the better punches of the round to take it on
                my card

Round 5 Beibut Shumenov (Very close) great fight

Another very close round that i felt Beibut Shumenov just
about edged as he was more consistent and closed better.

                Round 6 Gabriel Campillo

Beibut Shumenov was consistent again but he tired down the
stretch and this time his punches did not have the same pop
on them plus he was getting painted with the cleaner punches
                by Gabriel Campillo

Round 7 Beibut Shumenov (very hard to score for me)

I just felt Beibut Shumenov answered all Gabriel Campillo's
                attacks and was more active

                Round 8 Gabriel Campillo

Gabriel Campillo's best round as he was consistently landing
the cleaner punches throughout, Beibut Shumenov's workrate
                dropped dramatically in this round

                Round 9 Gabriel Campillo

Huge round for Gabriel Campillo as he took target practice
on Shumenov, Shumenov was hit with everything but
the kitchen sink. Tremendous double jabs and combos from
                Campillo.

                Round 10 Gabriel Campillo

Gabriel Campillo did the cleaner work as apose to Shumenov who was
active but missed a many of his punches and was not that effective landing
                imo, although he was busy.

                Round 11 Gabriel Campillo

Shumenov was very active in the round but his defence let him
down as Gabriel Campillo nailed him with cleaner more
                accurate shots.

                Round 12 Gabriel Campillo

Same as the 11th where by
Shumenov was very active in the round but his defence let him
down as Gabriel Campillo nailed him with cleaner more
                accurate shots.

Terrific fight. I felt the difference in the fight was Gabriel Campillo's accuracy, even
when Shumenov worked hard in some rounds he still lost the round because his
defence let him down, he would take the cleaner punches from Gabriel Campillo
and whilst he was active at times his shots were wild and not clean scoring
punches. Head shots also take superiority of body punches to imo, so even when
Shumenov was landing to the body you had to favour
Gabriel Campillo's head shots that were snapping his head
back at times. I have no problem scoring for body shots but
head shots take precedent over them when scoring.

Gabriel Campillo put his punches together beautifully at times particularly like the
way he would jab Shumenov then bring an uppercut from underneath and close
the combo with a right hook.

No ****ing way! Shumenov won that fight.

                ---------------------------------------------------------

                Erislandy Lara vs Grady Brewer

                Round 1 Erislandy Lara

Erislandy Lara was more active & landed the straight left
to the body and head and a nice uppercut, Brewer largely inactive

                Round 2 Erislandy Lara
Not much to choose from as Lara was a bit inactive whilst
Brewer upped his workrate his shots were ineffective landing,
Lara landed the cleaner shots imo so........

                Round 3 Erislandy Lara

Erislandy Lara took this session on the straight lefts he landed
not much from Brewer is actually landing.

                Round 4 Grady Brewer

Good round for Grady Brewer he nailed Lara with a right
hook that seemed to hurt Lara, although Lara nailed him with
a counter when he stepped inside to press, however right before
the end of the round Grady Brewer clearly stunned Lara with another
right hook that had Lara on shaky legs as he went back to the corner.

                Round 5 Erislandy Lara

Erislandy Lara economical in this round but still got the straight lefts through
and was more accurate and landed the cleaner work imo, although he
was not that active Brewer is not landing clean scoring punches imo.

                Round 6 Erislandy Lara

Erislandy Lara landed his straight left quite a few times early in the round, Brewer
got cut mid round and the cut seemed to be bothering imo.

                Round 7 Erislandy Lara

Erislandy Lara landing the cleaner work.

                Round 8 Grady Brewer

Lara switched off this round and Brewer took advantage by being more active and
                going to the body.

                Round 9 Erislandy Lara

Erislandy Lara landed the better punches, Brewer not getting much effective done
at the times Lara does shut up shop.

I felt Brewer was winning the last round as Lara completely switched off but Lara
managed to nail him with an uppercut in close that dropped him, Lara steamed in
and threw a girl flurry which was largely ineffective imo but the ref (Weekes)
decided to stop the fight, however i did'nt think Brewer was badly hurt and that
he should of definitely been given the opportunity to fight on.

Lara is far to economical with his output although his punches are very accurate, he is
flat footed and cant seem to fight inside either, he got rocked badly in the 4th
and did not impress me because of how many times his workrate
was left wanting in the fight, he made this fight seem competitive because he was not active enough and allowed Brewer to get off
and dictate the pace at times, that said he did land the cleaner punches throughout
                the fight, albeit sporadically.

Brewer actually did a good job of giving Lara different looks and stepping over
after punching, he mainly had success when he got in close and took advantage of
                Lara's inability to fight inside.

                    • Just watched Jung-Koo Chang vs German Torres I, amazing action fight with many ebbs and flows in the action, both men started out jabbing but it turns into a furious slugging match and it continues at a high pace throughout the whole fight. Torres gave an excellent showing but the aggressive and technically more competent Chang was too much for him in the end.
