It's only federally observed in the US so it's an american holiday.
Good point. It used to be federally observed in Mexico up until a few years ago. I think it's only a regional thing now though. For example, I know the state of Puebla (where the battle took place) still observes it.
It's obviously not a holiday here in the States, it's more of a St. Patrick's Day-type thing. Just a reason to celebrate. No denying it though, it HAS become really big here in this country.
Back on topic though, Pacquiao-Hatton is a great fight for that weekend!
