We're not talking about whether or not an event happened. We're talking about how a fighter would match-up against other fighters. Visual evidence is needed for this.
But what if we're talking about how Nelson would match up against Halsey? :thinking9:

Are you really trying to debate that you know exactly how someone fights based on some newspaper article written nearly a century ago?

You need FOOTAGE to SEE how a fighter actually fights. You can't just read and imagine it in your head..

Not all of us are slaves to visual media. It isn't particuarly hard for me to get a good handle on Nelson's tactics from reading about his battles......why would it be all that hard for me to get a handle on Greb's abilities from reading about his fights? Ever heard the phrase "reading is fundemental"? Sorry, but I'm not of the cynical generation that believes that everything in their educational background is BS and won't believe anything that they don't see with their own eyes.

Physical performances are entirely different from thoughts and tactics.

Thoughts and tactics don't require visual evidence for it to be understood by people. They're just ideas in someone's head. Physical performances, however, aren't. They're displays of actions and we can actually see those actions.

And naval tactics are thoughts put into action. Using your logic how the hell do we know Nelson's ships performed as they did without visual evidence? Afterall we have only someone else's word for it.

The same way we know that Greb won a decision against Tunney on one occasion. We can't see how he won the fight, but we still know that he won as a fact.

But, hey, you're confident. So let's hear it. Explain how a fight between Greb and Marciano would go.

Well lets see: We have a Middleweight volume puncher against a Heavyweight KO artist. Greb doesn't hit hard enough to hurt Marciano (especially given Rocky's granite chin) but his windmill punching might cut Marciano up much as it did Tunney. Ultimately while Greb gets a few licks in and may bloody Marciano, Rocky will hurt Greb badly to the body and KO him inside of three rounds.

Greb was an ATG Middleweight who had success at Light-Heavy and picked off some lower-tier Heavies.....but he was still a Middleweight and I can't see him being much of a threat to a top-tier Heavy let alone an ATG like Marciano.

And what are you basing Greb's peformance on?

                      On this:

                      A. He was a natural Middlewight.
                      B. Boxing historians who saw him fight report that he was a volume puncher.
                      C. From the same sources we know he threw punches in windmill fashion (see Aaron Pryor for an example).
                      D. We know from accounts of his win over Tunney that Gene was cut up badly. Marciano was known to cut easily.
                      E. No natural Middleweight is going to be able to take punches from Marciano, especially body shots, for very long.
                      F. No natural Middleweight, not even Julian Jackson, is going to punch hard enough to dent Marciano's granite chin.
