There has been a lot of attacks on the elderly where I'm from recently. I was watching some guy on the news giving the usual tips about safety. I was quite surprised when he said that safety chains were a good idea. I was always under the impression that they could be easily broken with a fairly strong kick. The law in the UK benefits the criminal quite often, as any serious force seems to put the victim as the one in the wrong. It can be difficult to give advice to the elderly on this subject. Lots of scumbags actually steal from people they know, which makes it even more difficult to prevent.
Lots of elderly people are still keeping their savings in their house instead of putting it in the bank. The stupidity of that just makes me want to tear my hair out.
