  • Interesting Video On Algieri's Trainer Tim Lane

Tim Lane was a former World Kickboxing Champion who grew up in the streets as a troubled teen in Virginia. In and out of correctional facilities through his teens he ended up moving to NY after a prison guard slipped a fighting magazine in his cell for him to read. Tim read about boxer Zab Judah and his father who was a trainer and former World Kickboxing Champion and decided to move up to NY after he got out in 1997.

With no money in his pocket but a dream in his heart he moved to Brooklyn to train at Gleason's Gym where he at times found himself sleeping on the streets behind a dumpster outside the gym until he got on his feet. He did and eventually became World Champ. He met Algieri when Chris was a 17 year old kid and Tim was a pro kickboxer on his way to becoming Champ. He had a hard time finding sparring partners and Chris was the only reliable one he could beat on but would keep coming back for more.

Lane says he tried his best to drop Chris but the tough 17 year old withstood even Tim's hardest liver kicks and punches that would always put bigger grown men down but Algieri took it. After months of hard sparring they eventually became friends and Tim eventually became his coach. Watch the video...gives an insight and background into where Lane came from.
