  • Hatton's REAL Problem - PTSD

PTSD means "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder"

Evidence: "Hatton could not explain why he had suffered random blackouts, even "when I was stone cold sober", which induced panic attacks and pains in his chest that restricted his breathing. He had no idea, either, why recently he had been watching footage of his brutal knockout by Pacquiao, in his last fight 16 months ago, "every day"."

    Official Description PTSD:

"The three groups of symptoms that are required to assign the diagnosis of PTSD are

recurrent re-experiencing of the trauma (for example, troublesome memories, flashbacks that are usually caused by reminders of the traumatic events, recurring nightmares about the trauma and/or dissociative reliving of the trauma), avoidance to the point of having a phobia of places, people, and experiences that remind the sufferer of the trauma and a general numbing of emotional responsiveness, and chronic physical signs of hyperarousal, including sleep problems, trouble concentrating, irritability, anger, poor concentration, blackouts or difficulty remembering things, increased tendency and reaction to being startled, and hypervigilance to threat.
The emotional numbing of PTSD may present as a lack of interest in activities that used to be enjoyed (anhedonia), emotional deadness, distancing oneself from people, and/or a sense of a foreshortened future (for example, not being able to think about the future or make future plans, not believing one will live much longer). At least one re-experiencing symptom, three avoidance/numbing symptoms, and two hyperarousal symptoms must be present for at least one month and must cause significant distress or functional impairment in order for the diagnosis of PTSD to be assigned. PTSD is considered of chronic duration if it persists for three months or more."

    My Analysis:

The watching of the KO loss to Pacquiao is a from of "dissociation", a coping act that aims to distance oneself from a first person perspective of the traumatic event. It is an "avoidance/numbing symptom".

The gaining of weight from lack of exercise and diet that used to be part of being a world class boxer is a symptom of "anhedonia" (the "lack of interest in the activity - boxing - that used to be enjoyed")

Yes, Pacquiao has caused Hatton's problems because it has resulted Post Traumatic Disorder.

Unfortunately, he hasn't been diagnosed with such a illness. This mis-diagnosis will result in the continuation of the problem.

Alcoholism and drugs are not the problem. They are merely the symptoms of the deeper problem. Until this real problem of PTSD is resolved all of the other problems (depression, alcohol, cocaine) will continue to persist.

A person is going through problems and some of you dumb Pac fans are saying Pacquiao did it like it's something to be proud of.

Just saying that the Pacquiao KO was the cause of the recurring trauma that generalized itself throughout Hatton's life.
