  • How much does P4P really matter?

Most of us on here get all heated and serious when we talk about our P4P lists, as if it's some sort of precious treasure. Yet how much does it really matter? I agree, being labelled as the best P4P fighter in the sport does bring interest, and therefore revenue. But other than that, I think it's pretty much useless.

I think we should try put our focus more on actual divisional rankings, and not some imaginary list where the criteria is anything you want it to be (excluding the top spot, given that at least means something)

P4P is nothing but pure speculation, subjectivity and opinion.

People say the CW division sucks, yet any single CW who knows how to throw a proper punch would kick any.... lets say SMW and below's ass. Honestly a lot of "P4P" lists are some kind of justifications for little man syndrome. Fact. (not really)

I dont think I agree that people take it all that seriously, its something to argue about. Some people are quick to talk about whether or not Wvlad is better than Pacquiao because they know that fight can never actually happen, so they can never be proven wrong really.

It's a commercial/marketing tool often used to sell fighters placed this mythical scale by comparing them to other champs of other divisions and thereby selling off strong points of a certain fighter such as resume or how many titles they own. In essence, it doesn't mean much at all. It's subjective nature negates any real sense of clarity and credibility and is a poor barometer imo to compare fighters from other divisions as other divisions may be much more competitive than those pre- and proceeding it.

It seemed like it was important when Manny was number 1. Now that Floyd is number one it doesnt seem to matter.

Agree - P4P is pure speculation. How can you seriously compare some featherweight boxer with a heavyweight? Lightweighted boxers are much speedy and can throw and take a hell lot more punches than HW's because it is not so exhausting for them to throw those punches and not so painfull to be hit. However only one HW's punch is enough to knock the **** out of his opponent and same thing if he gets hit by another HW. It's like to compare fly with fly-swat - fly is speedy and make a lot of movement with her wings but one swatter hit is enough to finish her. On the other hand fly, with all her speed and movement, can't do any damage to fly-swat. Same thing if you compare HW's and featherweights. It's like to compare tank with submachine gun. SMG is entertaining and make a lot of noise but it can't damage a tank, however only one tank's succesfull shot and it's all over.

HW's due to their weight and power have completely different tactics and winning strategies. They can't box like featherweights due to their physical parameters, but featherweights can't hit and take hits like HW's. It's two different sports in the large scale. Like tanks and SMG's are all weapons but they have completely different tactics of usage and incomparable to each other.

p4p means absolutely nothing if you don't use it properly.
For instance Pac fights top p4p fighters one after the other, JMM, Bradley and then JMM again.
Yes Pac lost and then nearly jumped out of the top 10 p4p in many peoples opinions just cos he lost to top 5 p4p fighters.?

If that can happen there will be no incentive for fighters to risk there position or status. YOu might as well just look great against opposition that is sub par or made for you.

The only spot that really means a thing is the #1 spot... Maybe top 3... After that its a popularity contest
