Los Angeles. It seems that the next opponent for Juan Manuel Lopez will be WBO FeatherWeight Champion, Steven Luevano on 23 January.
But not in Puerto Rico, but in Madison Square Garden in New York.
This was reported earlier by Top Rank's Bob Arum, who said negotiations are well advanced.
"The plan is to have Juanma up to 126 pounds to challenge Luevano as the main event and also have cuban prospect Yuriorkis Gamboa facing Rogers Mtagwa facing Rogers in the undercard" said Arum. "Mtagwa gave a great fight to Juanma and he deserves a second chance to throw himself into this division. So we will face him with Gamboa.
The Card was originally planned to be held in Puerto Rico, but Arum justified the change of scenery due to the high cost of mobilizing the infrastructure necessary to mount the HBO show on the island.
The plan would then matc the winners of both fights in June during the weekend of the Puerto Rican Day Parade again in New York.
Arum also said that it will make the Puerto Rican Eric Morel fight against Filipino Gerry Penalosa on February 13 and then the winner would challenge the 118-pound monarch, Fernando Montiel.
"Morel will have his chance at Montiel if he beats Penalosa," Arum said yesterday.
