Its the oligarchical consensus to impose austerity on the poor. The Democrats do it too, but they're traditionally not as cut throat about it as the Republicans since the Republicans think that helping the poor is an assault on their fictional "free market".

The banks started all this and because most people don't pay attention to the banks, they slowly start to become convinced by the corporate whore media that the debt and the depression is their fault and that they should pay for it.

When in fact, its just another scheme by banks and government to squeeze every last drop out of the people.

Republicans pander to their base which is essentially upper middle class people who think that if only poor people worked harder, then their great grandparents could own property against which to leverage their parents educations before they were born too.

It's a way of allaying middle class guilt by pretending that it's poor peoples' own fault that they are poor for being lazy.

In a way American politics is all about middle class guilt. Liberals feel guilty they they are wealthy and others are poor so they make policies to punish themselves for it, conservatives feel guilty that they are wealthy while others are poor so they make policies to punish poor people for making them feel guilty.

Poor people are too stupid and lazy to take an interest in politics so nobody pays any attention to what they want.

That's harsh but true, you hurt my feelings with that. But i'm poor and I don't know much about politics. So you have a point.

programs for lower income americans are the only thing the federal reserve and the bankers who control the government will let them cut, they're sure as hell not going to cut corporate welfare payments from the poor to the upper class. americans lost their right to control the country's finances in 1913 when the federal reserve took over, it took most of the gold in Ft Knox and then devalued the american dollar several times, it's why we have inflation rising more each year than it used to in a hundred years. from the 1920's until 1963, a loaf of bread cost roughly 10 cents, that's a very stable economy, but the federal reserve wanted to devalue the dollar, and it has every year, now a loaf of bread costs $3, roughly 300 percent inflation

The gold standard is the fastest way to utterly destroy financial growth.

at some point in the 1920's the federal reserve ordered all americans to turn in their old gold coins for less valuable paper money. the federal reserve then kept the gold in its own bank, the biggest swindle in american history since the fed reserve isn't a part of the government it's just a private corporation owned by the Rockefellers. Basically it meant john d rockefeller got permission to rob the american people

The Federal Reserve Act was passed under Woodrow Wilson in 1913. It was amended in 1933. At no point did the Federal Reserve act require confiscation of citizen's gold.
