I am not sure if I failed at working the murder rate but to me, with the stats on the murders on the link I showed, the rate is down by quite a high % from 800 to 550 for England and Wales and consider that out population has gone up too.

the biggest problem with laws against so called assault weapons is defining it.

Assault rifles can be semi auto like they are now. They also modify them to the point where they are just about automatic.
