Which of these films have you seen:
The Machinist
American Psycho
Rescue Dawn
Harsh Times
The Prestige
Batman Begins

I do agree with your Heath Ledger comment. Brokeback Mountain, Monsters Ball, The Dark Knight were ****ing amazing performances. he could've gone down as one of the ATG's.

I am not a big fan of DiCaprio, I never really liked Gangs of New York much or The Departed he isnt a rubbish actor but he seems the same in everything to me. A bit like blood diamond i thought last king of scotland was a better film and Forest Whitaker had a great performance.

Look up Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Christian Bale, Forrest Whitaker. They all apply their craft in the same way DDL does. Why does DDL get placed on this almighty pedestal?
Christian Bale has turned in more outstanding peformances than DDL.
Dicaprio, Bale both have incredible diversity but DDL has done so many performances where he literally re invents himself it's amazing.
The reason DDL doesn't have a ton of movies is because he picks great roles, doesn't settle for crap.
I mean from his depiction of a Mohawk indian in Last Of The Mohikans to "There will be Blood" to "Gangs of NY" and "My Left Foot" it's hard to argue his diversity and talent.
There's something about DDL that sticks out, he can do it all.

DiCaprio is the best of this era. Deal with it.
He hasn't got the titles under his belt.
What's his Oscar nominations count?
Whats his nominations/wins ratio?
Day Lewis Best Actor in a lead: 4 times nominated
Success rate: 50%
DiCaprio Best Actor in A Lead: 2 times nominated
Success rate: 0%
Lets compare the roles that won the nomination:
DDL:
Psycho Moneyhungry Oilman in There Will Be Blood
Crazy Irish Butcher in Gangs Of New York
Scapegoat Prisoner in In The Name of The Father
Best ****** Ever in My Left Foot
DiCaprio
Journalist in Blood Diamond
Financier in The AviatorLast edited by omarinbox; 06-22-2010, 01:57 PM.

The Brando era - The De Niro era - The DiCaprio eraOriginally posted by omarinbox View PostBrando and Bobby NEVER-EVER did the kind of Hollywood ****storm that was Titanic that early in their careers.
They worked their way to that level and turned it down.
Di Caprio he does them now and again to pay bills and spent most of his career making up for them with the likes of The Beach, Gangs of.., The Departed.
If anyone is the modern day Brando - De Niro its Daniel Day Lewis.Originally posted by TEDetc View PostI wouldn't be so hard on Leo if people didn't constantly compare him to De Niro or Brando....he's absolutely, 100% not even in the same realm as them and the only reason the comparison gets made is because Scorsese uses Leo in alot of his films now.

My favorite work from DiCaprio in this order:
The Beach
Catch Me If You Can
The Departed
The Aviator
This Boy's Life
Revolutionary Road
Blood Diamond & Body of Lies, these two I look at the same way. Good action flicks, but nothing special.
I have yet to see Shutter island.Last edited by cupocity303; 06-23-2010, 12:21 AM.
