Obviously if they show up here that means they're more advanced than we are.

I'm just talking about the general assumption that life out there would be intellectually and technologically superior to life on Earth. And therefore capable of showing up here in the first place.

Who knows? Maybe there's a planet out there where intelligent life is just now crawling forth from the primordial ooze?
