The UFC is short and sweet. UFC and other MMA companies can tout that they are safer because fighters dont fight for an extended time after being injured or knocked down and that is enough to warrant them safer. But just wait commissions will crack down on their rules even harder and we will see long drawn out boring decisions like you do in boxing. I respect both sports but dont kid yourself that UFC rules will never change and it wont be for the better due to those safety guideliness that will eventually fall in place.

In relation to the whole Casinos getting first dibs...Good thank god let them have them. Nothing beats a hot paid crowd at a boxing fight...Casinos dont deserve the fights they get and its a shame they are staged their...UFC moving into casinos just means price hikes to alienate their core fan base (18-24) by not being able to afford tickets and getting the same complimentary tickets passed out to fill up those empty casino arenas...Bad move by UFC IMO...Good move for boxing if they could seperate from that type of venue. I bet Rogan will feel like a dumbass when he is screaming for his life over a match and the crowd is full of old people and the arena is dead quiet...

How can this be a negative for boxing?

No, sorry if I wasn't clear. They have alot of boxing matches too, but here in Scandinavia, even kickboxing seems to be more populare then boxing. I've bought several fighting magazines, and there are articles about Boxing, Kickboxing and MMA... The magazine has like 70 pages, and only about 5-10 of them are about boxing.

Also, even the Mayweather vs De La Hoya match was totally unknown here in Norway. I honestly have to say, that I had never even heard about Floyd Mayweather before his fight with Oscar...

Im sorry to say that in Scandinavia, MMA and Kickboxing rules Boxing. It's sad, realy.

You've touched on a good point about the way the MMA (Kickboxing too) markets themselves, not only are they big on merchandising they are also media and IT savvy. The marketing of UFC in the States, Pride and K1 around the world using electronic media is really good. I don't think boxing is doing enough to promote itself around the world. In New Zealand boxing has a reasonable profile amongst the sporting public but amongst the young male demographic (18 - about 35, not scientific just observation) MMA is exploding! Is it like that in the States?

It's been like that for a couple years now.

The only problem is that the new fans are following whoever the president of one company believes is cool.

What's funny is out of his whole bunch, the only one wearing gold right now is a ten year vet who couldn't get a title shot in the first place because his style was too technical for judges.

speaking of cracking down on UFC/mma Armando Garcia of CSAC is super strict with combat sports in california people hate him but i like the guy he even said he wants all mma events in a ring instead of a cage and to get rid of elbows because they open up cuts easy.

Another reason why MMA is so media savvy is that, before the blowup, that all they pretty much had. SEG and then Zuffa was living off the skin of their teeth pretty much on the VHS/DVD market. That's all they had. They had to refine and define production skills just so they could get another hundred units out. Add to that, learning a thing or two from the japanese fight scene and they were dominating the fight vid genre. Even blowing away Titan Home Entertainment several times.

DVDs and comps come natural to MMA because it's all they know media wise.

                  ya i agree
and to me the only thing that will kill mma is organization companies like UFC! and greed thats the only threat.
because ufc is huge now...I watch mma and boxing and sometimes im harsh on mma only cause my beloved PRIDE is gone I was a huge pride fan.
Everywhere I go if I talk about boxing or if boxing shows there is always some tough guy frat boy or kid who has to blurt out some **** like that aint real fighting as if he knew about ufc 100 years ago.
no respect to be honest and i think thats why boxing fans retaliate so harsh.

Why can't it be like in japan and russia where they respect all combat sports.

Yes. He also wants to get rid of cartwheel guard passes, cartwheel kicks, carry people to slam them elsewhere, bodylocks, shinlocks, I think kneebars, and numerous other technics he deems "flashy" or "fake".
