No, this has always been build as a final eliminator, but Kirkland got injured so obviously Lara steps up. By the way how is Canelo the problem? He hasn't done anything wrong.

Wasn't the winner of Kirkland-Angulo supposed to be fighting Canelo?? Fuk Sulaiman.

I was thinking maybe the WBC changed it from final to semi-final after the fight had already taken place, but apparently the fight was in fact billed as a semi-final eliminator before the fight took place. At least according to the Golden boy website.

Angulo vs. Kirkland, a 12 round WBC Super Welterweight Continental Americas Title Fight and Semi-Final Eliminator
I'm assuming Angulo and Kirkland would have known this and went along with it anyway.

Golden Boy was already hyping a Canelo-Angulo bout in Mexico after Angulo won his"eliminator" against Kirkland. When Kirk won all of a sudden he's not really the mandatory and they moved in another direction. Vanes won his "WBC Silver title" that was supposedly his mandatory status. Canelo isn't wrong but ever since he won his "WBC Silver title" to claim his mandatory spot, he's faced: Baldomir, Ndou, won a vacant super duper WBC title against Hatton, Rhodes, Gomez, Cintron. There's not much comp in that list other than a few has beens, never beens and never will be's. Why is it that every other talented fighter ranked by the WBC has to fight the competitive fights before they get their shot at Canelo? Maybe because he's in line to face Floyd?

I'd love to see a Vanes vs Lara fight. But, if Kirk earned his "semi-final" eliminator than why wouldn't he be in the "final" eliminator? Yeah he's injured but you book a fight 3-4 months from now and I'm sure that's more than enough time for him to heal.

Translation: Top Rank doesn't want to give up a title shot and they have a strong suspicion Lara will whoop Vanes up.

Lol at "semi eliminator" So Kirkland had to beat Angulo in a "Semi eliminator" than had to fight Molina also in another semi eliminator to finally fight Vanes in a final eliminator. Not sure how anyone is defending this.

Yea Vanes ducked Angulo. But, if he would have fought and beat Angulo in a Semi eliminator, which came after a semi eliminator with Saul Roman to fight another semi eliminator against Kirkland.

In what World does semi means 3 fights just to get a title shot. Semi is short for lets say semi finals...That's 4 people, 2 fights. Not 3, this is pretty bogus by the WBC.

At the end of the day Vanes is the silver champ. In other words he already is the mandatory for the title. That title is basically the #1 contender ala the interim title from other sanctioning bodies.

Maybe because it's Arum or maybe cuz' people dickride Golden Boy and Canelo. Lets say Vanes go with this. When would they fight? In the Summer? Maybe August. It's very likely that Canelo will fight again in September. Would the winner of Vanes-Lara be ready by September? I doubt it.

That means Canelo after Mosley in his next fight will fight another voluntary defense without facing a mandatory. When you got 2 guys that have legit cases already to get a title shot. The winner of Lara-Vanes possibly won't get Canelo until 2013. Does no one find that ridiculous? And, by 2013 where would that leave Kirkland? He would be ready by then. So the winner of Lara-Vanes might be force to fight Kirkland. And, lets say Floyd Mayweather comes calling in 2013. You think the WBC is going to pass on Floyd to give one of these dudes a shot? Hell no. So the winner won't get a shot at this title.

Kirkland might be ready by September force that fight against Canelo. If Kirkland isn't ready the force the Vanes fight for Canelo. Kirkland has fought 2 eliminators so far. Vanes is the Silver champ so by the WBC standards they deserve their shot.

Like I said earlier Chavez Jr is probably envious on how much Canelo is being protected by the WBC. At least Chavez is fighting formable opponents like a Zbik, Rubio, and now Lee. Canelo is fight Gomez, Cintron, and now Mosley. Not sure what corpse they going to get for September.
