  • Cuban Fans Are Rigo's Biggest Problem

Regardless of how pleasing his style is to casual boxing fans if the Cuban diaspora in Florida filled an arena with 10,000 fans the way the Polish do for Adamek in New Jersey guys like Lara and Rigo wouldn't have this problem. Rigo, his manager and Cuban fans need to be chastising themselves not a business like HBO for pointing out that he isn't profitable. Make it profitable and the support will follow.

According to the 2010 census there are 1.21 Million Cubans in Florida. In contrast the top five US cities with the largest Polish populations have roughly half the amount with 600,000. The largest New York only has 213,447.

    Food for thought.

Any Boxing Promoter will tell you there's really no market in Florida

A lot of Cubans in Florida are not boxing fans.

Cuba the country is full of boxing fans. Cubans in Florida for whatever reasons lost a lot of cultural traditions in the states. They're basically white fat yanks now. I don't think they even support baseball very much.

Has Arum even tried to hold a show for him in south Florida? How does he know that he won't draw?

The guy doesn't even look like he wants to promote Rigo. Look at how he blatantly puts him down in public.

i agree, but it will never happen. cubans in miami have never supported pro boxers. the most popular has been casamayor.

napoles was a cuban, but he fought and had his following in mexico.

if there was money to make with this guy he wouldn't be complaining about him. bob arum is one of the smartest guys in the history of this game.

Miami is not a sport town, its a front runner city.

If Bob thinks there is no money to make then he should let someone else take a shot at promoting him.

What does front runner mean for a city?
