  • Watching Floyd/Ortiz again. HBO commentators are amazing...

It's amazing what they DON'T seem to see or don't WANT to see.

Everytime Floyd counters or lands or Ortiz misses, they talk as if Ortiz landed. Just one example is at the 12 seconds [left] mark of the end of round 3. Ortiz throws a left, Floyd quickly shoots a right before Ortiz's left gets there, it lands, Ortiz stumbles, and Lampley says "Gooood left cross by Ortiz, he's quick enough to fight!" That left got no where above the chest line because Floyd already knocked Ortiz off with his timed right hand.

That's is just an example, but it was happening all night. Some say that Ortiz was "coming on" or doing well. Well Hatton and Mosley were "doing well" at the beginning. Floyd settles into fights and chops guys down. It's amazing what the commentators don't see or want to see. And what they were seeing is a very relaxed Floyd who didn't need to bounce around on his toes, throws 5-8 punch speedy combinations because he is relaxed to just pace himself, miss a few, land a few, but not take any damage to eventually break Ortiz down for a late stoppage or UD.

Then when Lampley says "Fans of BOTH fighters stand in appreciation", Merchant says "Seldom seen in a Mayweather fight"

When people talk about Floyd's quickness, his detractors think and expect speedy, motion blurred combinations that "look" fast. They don't realize that Floyd's quickness is not in looking flashy like a Leonard or Jones. It's in his timing, pacing and distance. He misses like anyone else. He focuses on fighting relaxed and using what I like to call a "relaxed speed"

Their "hope" is Manny who will be beaten simply.

Also gotta remember they're watching it live at ringside. Contrary to what many might think, that can be more difficult. They don't get the wide angles that we do watching on television.

Maybe they need to tape the fight, watch it in slow motion, and then make their commentary. The more you watch the fight again and again, the worse the commentary becomes in all fights. It's hard enough to comment live, especially if you're an old guy with slowing reflexes. Plus, they view the fight from one side of the ring, so their vantage point isn't as good as the closeup from the camera. If you can do better commentating live, then give it a try.

            What do you expect?

            It's a Goldenboy shindig.

Oscar stuffed a few more Benjamins into Lampley's pocket and bingo!

All of a sudden the commentary doesn't fit the ring action. Ortiz is landing phantom shots all over Floyd's dome. Compubox #'s adjust accordingly.

Have you ever been to a fight?

You can't see everything going on from only one angle.

Yes they have video monitors where they sit, but a lot of the time they are watching the action live from only one vantage point... it's not necessarily on purpose they are only reporting one guy doing one thing and not the other.

Ofcourse!! Television has multiple angles from the cameras!! Compared to seeing it from one angle!! I think maybe they should have 1 on each side!! To get a better perspective!! Same thing with the judges!! Atleast theyd have 3 of the 4 sides covered!

I think its pretty obvious HBO over credited Mayweather and did not give as much credit to Ortiz, video will show you what I saw
