Throughout russias history, if there is one military you don't want to be a part of, it's Russias.

I remember recently when they were rushing their forces to the boarder, you saw a bunch of brand new weapononized vehicles.

Than all of a sudden you see the medic vans, they looked like WW2 medic vans. I couldn't fcking believe it. Goes to show, once your injuried/captured russian military has no plans to take care of you.

the taliban had stinger missiles, stingers will drop any helicopter out of the sky. you need serious firepower to take a Russian Mi-24 down though, they call it the flying tank because it's armor plated so much that it's near immune to small arms fire.

i don't believe the Mi-8 transport helicopters have the same armor and they move slower, easier to shoot at. both confirmed shootdowns have been Mi-8s. the other incidents with attack helicopters were malfunctions or unconfirmed.

here's a list of US/NATO losses of helicopters and planes during the Iraq war. it happened more often than i thought.
