[PLEASE HELP] Iphone not working

So my iPhone got stolen and I decided to buy a second hand replacement until the iPhone 6 comes out. I bought a 3GS and it doesn't seem to be working. It turns on and works fine, then all of a sudden just turns off and if you try turning it back on it goes to the apple logo and then turns off. I restored it to factory setting and it works fine for a while then turns off and the mess starts all over again. Anyone know what the problem is?

My guess is liquid damage. No real hope. I've heard of people taking them apart and cleaning the corrosion with alcohol and a QTip.
