How do you rate the best-selling singles of all time?
1. White Christmas - Bing Crosby, 50 million
2. Candle in the Wind - Elton John, 33 million
3. Silent Night - Bing Crosby, 30 million
4. Rock Around The Clock - Bill Haley and the Comets, 25m
5. We Are The World - USA for Africa, 20m
6. I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston, 20m
7. If I Didn't Care - The Ink Spots, 19m
8. Yes Sir, I Can Boogie - Baccara, 16m
9. My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion, 15m
10. All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey, 14m
11. I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor, 14m
12. Wind of Change - The Scorpions, 14m
Now, there's, IMO, some serious ****ing surprises there. I knew that Bing Crosby was knee-deep in pu$$y, but who knew that Baccara sold so much? Admittedly, 13 million of those singles were bought by Godzhand, AKA MetalVomit, AKA The Latino ****. But even so, I'd thought it was a fun, catchy novelty, not a MONSTER that outsold the most popular Beatles single (I Want Hold Your Hand) by 4 million copies.
Or what about No.12? I appreciate that Battling Nelson bought 11m of those copies, and that the band famously almost quit on their stools before seeing the recording to the distance, but what the ****?
Worst single for me has to be No.2... that song was about Marilyn, now it's about Diana? Monroe's ghost should haunt Elton at nights. And what about that Fat Yank anthem at No.5? "We Are The World"? Typical Yankian mentality, that.
