IMO another question should be asked is. as a boxing fan, what era of heavyweight boxing would you prefer the tyson of klitschko's? in terms of: excitement, opponents etc

Who had the weaker Heavy-weight division Tyson's time or the Klitschko's time

Today's division is much weaker by far.
In Tyson's day you had
Larry Holmes (past his best but still took a prime Evander Holyfield all the way AFTER he got ko'd by Tyson)
Tyrell Biggs - gold medalist
Tony Tucker - very good
James Smith - good
Frank Bruno - 95% KO ratio. Massive power.
Michael Spinks - vastly under-rated.
Most of these guys would possibly lose to Vitali but I'd give them a very good chance against Wladimir. Can you say that about today's HW's who look frightened to be in the ring with either Klitschko?

Also Holmes in the nineties outboxed Ray Mercer and went the distance with Tyson's old sparring partner,Oliver McCall.
The seventies heavweight division was the best.Of the fighters who made a big noise in the division during that period you had Ali,Foreman,Frazier,Norton, Holmes leading the pack and then you have Shavers,Bugner,Jimmy Young,Bonavena ,Jerry Quarry and Ron Lyle among others.
The most talented fighters from the late seventies blew themselves out.John Tate was mentally destroyed by Mike Weaver, Cooney never recovered from the realisation that he was not the second coming of Marciano and Tim Witherspoon committed career suicide against Bonecrusher Smith, just so that Don King wouldn't be able to take anymore of his money.
What was left in the heavyweight division was a bunch of solid big guys and a few other smaller or less powerful technicians.Tyson just blew most of them away convincingly.
BTW if Spinks could outbox Larry Holmes,in their first fight, and destroy Cooney, I would give him a decent chance of otboxing and hurting the Klitschkos-or at least Wlad.He was a bigger man than Roy Jones Jnr,in case you are wondering.
