2.) You say that like it's a bad thing.

Did control over the flow of the oilfields play a part in our decision to go to war? Absolutely. But it's also about having a strong American presence/influence in the mineral rich and highly chaotic middle east so that we can reap the benefits of the aforementioned presence and influence in the future.

That much we most certainly do give a **** about.

As for the topic of Syria, I'm in favor of standing down right now. To my knowledge, we still don't have concrete proof of which side actually used the chemical weapons. Furthermore, I'm really not in favor of military intervention into the political squabbles regarding nations that will never be considered allies - Whether it's Syria, Iran, Egypt, or whoever.

We have no way of truly distinguishing what the rebels in these countries truly stand for, for one. For all we know we could be arming our future enemies like we did in Afghanistan during the 1980s.
