One thing for sure. Cuban can't be the warriors that Mexicans are.

Solis is 50 pounds oeverweight so there is no way we would actually know how good he should;ve been, fok him

Lara is ok, probably a top 10, gamboa is a beast, rigondeaux is a beast,

and watch out for el maja who hits as hard or harder than gamboa

yoan pablo hernandez has been pretty succesful too, people here are exagerating if you got a couple of cubans in the top 5 of their own division guess what thats success however you look at it noone said 50% of the top 20 p4p list is going to be cuban
not hating i just think gamboa is grossly overrated on this fourms

no i have never been to cuba. and actually i have never seen MM's films, except the one about capitalism. i actually watched a documentary a poster on here posted from youtube about a young group of boxers. it was inspiring to see what they go through at such a young age. they basically carry their families on their back. it;s still pure, it's all about pride.

Then, I became very interested in Cuba as a country, so what did I do? I researched as much as I could find. Im sure it's biased. But the fact that they are rely so much on themselves, unlike majority of other countries, means a whole lot IMO. Especially powerful empires like England, America, Australia rely and exploit poor third world countries for cheap resources. This is why we enjoy the standard of living. And why so many americans, and western european countries (yeah, u guys are pretty chunky too) are fat and happy and only worry about what flavor of PET ice cream they will be purchasing that week.

Cuba is doing something right as far as teaching the sweet science. Im just trying to give some props to them, although I do not compeltely agree with their idealogies, there is some level of self respect involved.

If CUBA had the money it takes for the USA to house mesican chicano prisoners from California, Texas, and Arizona alone. CUBANS WOULD DOMINATE ALL OF BOXING.

(sarcasm)well that's not possible..because remember, according to some people's theories mexico has a bigger population than cuba and it's all based on how big your countries population is...

bigger population = obviously more champions....

but for real though...castro's gov't is big on sports...thats why they'r so good in the olympics ...so if castro's gov't disappears will they still have the same emphasis on sports? .....

you wanna know facts? in cuba high school teachers are 18-year-olds with very weak knowledge and the best way to get good grades is to **** them. yeah, ****, as in having sex with them. if your a male and your teacher is a female, you better give her a good doggystyle if you want good grades... if you're a female and your teacher is a male, you better be good at giving BJs. For graduate students, you don't have to defend your thesis anymore. All you have to do is throw a party, invite your directors, pay for their rhum and amusement, and they'll give you an A. that's the way education works in cuba right now. back then, education in cuba was one of the best. today it is easily one of the worst in the whole WORLD.

for the health system, don't believe what michael moores tells you...what you see in the movie is a hospital for foreigners that pay in dollars for the medical services. cubans aren't allowed there, even if they steal dollars, they won't be treated. go visit cuba and you'll see. there's no such thing as health care. yes it's free, because it nonexistent. you have hospitals, and poorly teached "doctors" inside, but you won't get healed if you get sick, because there's no medicine and because the education system sucks, hence the doctors sucks. again, this is now. years ago cuba had indeed the best doctors in the world. the new batches are all fake and their only existing purpose is propaganda...

it's sad but is the way it is.. cuba can't recover anymore, it's too late, it got destroyed from the inside... unfortunately cuba will eventually become another haiti.. even if the castros die today and their regime disappear, the damage is done, the country is destroyed and there's no infrastructure to build anything back
utter b*llocks. i lived in cuba for a year and have studied it extensively.
the healthcare is excellent- i have visited a cuban friend's mum who was in hospital, lived with another friend who had to have ongoing neurological treatment and i have been in a policlinic as a patient. they'd pretty damn good and the expertise is spot on. the only thing they're lacking is resources and i'll not get started on why that is.
propaganda? why is it that the cubans have been requested to take charge (by pretty much all the donor countries, except the states of course) of planning the restoration and overhaul of the haitian system?
and why does cuba have such good RESULTS healthwise- in terms of, for example, life expectancy etc etc? erm coz they've got such a crap health system?! yeah right.

i studied at the university of havana with cuban students and the teaching was by and large better than in england, one or two tutors not so good but that's the same anywhere. my classmates were significantly better informed than my classmates back home.

why are cuban boxers so good? because they have the best training system in the world, based originally on the soviet system, ie highly scientific, and adapted to the idiosyncrasies of the cuban population, and culture, and then employed across the country. i know, i spent my whole year researching the Cuban School of Boxing and being mentored by one of the top guys for the youth programmes. look at any of the cuban professional boxers and what do you see?- amazingly good, finely honed technique because they've been schooled incredibly well. it's got very little to do with economic conditions. without the economic system -socialism- they wouldn't have developed the system for boxing that they do have, that's true, but the reason the cuban boxers are special is their coaching. instead of having the odd good gym here and there with it's own ways of doing things they get all the coaches together in committees and think it all through, then nationwide plans are developed.

the place ain't perfect and a lot of stuff doesn't work as well as it should but don't talk such rubbish eh? you either haven't got a clue or you're deliberately trying to mislead everyone. not from miami by any chance are you?!

a good way of highlighting how important their coaching methods are is to look how many countries now have cuban coaches running or at least heavily involved in their national amateur boxing teams. india is a great example- up until recent years who had ever heard of an indian boxer? now at the last commonwealth games they were the team to beat. why? the cubans started helping them to develop the sport. i couldn't honestly say how many countries have cubans as head coaches but i remember teddy atlas saying a few years ago that there were at least 13, and i think probably more now.

yeah this is to a large extent true. there's tons of others who could come through and ok not every one is gonna be a gamboa or a rigondeaux but there's some pretty damn good lads there.
worth a look at luís garcía, mike perez, erislandy lara (though you'll probably know him already), yordenis úgas, luís franco (who beat gamboa a couple of times in national championships back home), there's plenty of up and coming pros just there, never mind the guys still in cuba.
